• The majority of reconstruction mammoplasty procedures are performed to assist women who have lost a breast due to breast cancer.
• Uncommonly the procedure is required after the breast tissue is lost in trauma.
• There are 2 basic approaches to breast reconstruction surgery. The first method utilizes a tissue expander and eventually , an artificial breast implant to reform the breast mound.
• The alternative natural reconstruction approach uses tissue harvested form a patient’s own body to recreate the missing breast.
